Memorial Day en Mexico

Last Monday was Memorial Day in the US. So, three of us took a day off on Friday to go to San Felipe (Baja California, Mexico). Here are some pictures.

On the road to San Felipe...

We stopped at a little "tienda" in the middle of nowhere to have some rest and have a drink.

A view of the "campo" where we spend three nights. It was so noisy beacause of gilipollas who were riding quads all day long

The front view of a club "Rockodile" where we spend some hours.

Sunday, we hiked in the desert around

We spent a lot of time on beach... I had never had a bath in such a hot water! So gooooooood!!

I suppose you know what it is...

A random view...

A "vendeur à la sauvette"... there are many of that type...but not so nice!

Luego mas detalles....

Death Valley

Hey guys!
I waited until I get some pictures to finally write something down in this blog again.
Well, I‘ve done a couple of interesting things since I wrote last time!
I do a language exchange once a week with a woman who wants to improve her French. In fact, she already speaks very well… She‘s an English teacher at UCLA! Could I have met a better person to help me to learn English?!!
I went to play beach volley with one my bosses and a “colleague” last Thursday, and I ‘m supposed to go on every Thursday. We play with friends of my boss who all work at Yahoo!

Two weeks ago, I spent a day at “Six Flags”. It’s a park with a lot of roller coasters! Some of them are crazy! Some pictures soon.

Last week end, I went to Death Valley. It’s a very special place. I had never seen something like that… actually, I had seen few places….. I was very impressed by the different landscapes. Dunes, stone desert, mountains, salt lakes, so many colors, so few people, so hot, so quiet, so everything!
We hiked all Sunday long … roughly, a 15 miles trail in mountains!
I went with guys of my companies. All of us were exhausted at the end of the week-end, feeling sick but happy to spend such a week-end.

Here is some pictures, I'll add others.

I’m supposed to spend 4 days in Mexico in the end of May! (for Memorial Day)
Next WE? I think I will spend some bucks in shopping on the 3rd Street Promenade...

Off-Road trip in the mountains

Saturday, I went to the mountains by San Bernardino to an off-road trail in a Jeep with my roommates and 3 of their friends. I had never seen such a landscape! We used the walky-talkies that Guilherme had bought, they proved themselves to be very useful! It was a nice trip! Soon pictures of what I saw.

Finally to the beach!

Today, I realized how weird one of my bosses could be! He spent 10 minutes laughing at women‘s pictures he had received in a work related email …(work related, i swear !) Don’t ask me why, I could not answer! I also witnessed a funny childish side of Guilherme who bought walky-talkies, with which he seemed to have a lot of fun! We ‘re supposed to use them Saturday, in a 4*4 trip in the mountains.
What about my job? Today, one of my bosses asked me to design a circuit… I proposed him a “tip” to avoid his complex solution and make it more simple...that and also because I have no idea how to actually make such a complex circuit… I hope my idea will work out!
Oh! Today, I went to the beach on lunch break! Sunny weather, fine sand beach and… odd people!

My First WE

This WE was cool !
Saturday night, I went to the movies and saw “ The pursuit of happiness” (starring Will Smith) with my roommates.
Sunday, I played football (or soccer ?) in Beverly Hills... ;-) and I went to “Father’s Burger” for dinner. I could finally speak English and make sentences more complicated than “ hello”, “ Thanks”, “ yes, please”… Gavin (a friend/colleague of Guilherme) joined us there, he is from Hong Kong. I had to understand his questions…and answer him! It was rather difficult…but not as much as when I had to have the waitress to understand what I wanted to order… I drank a 9$ glass of red wine…it’s expensive not to like beer… I ate the ”Office Burger”, probably, until now, the best (and most expensive!) burger I have ever had !

2nd Day

I woke up Friday at 6.30 am before the alarm clock! The mission of the morning was to go to the Social Security to get the famous “Social Security Number”, needed to register to many things! I had to ride almost 2 hours to go there, first to a closed office and then to another. Once I did this, I arrived in Bossa Nova at 11 am. The rest of my working day was devoted to reading documents and asking questions about them. At noon, first “Fast Food” of my stay, a Chinese restaurant: “Panda Express”… I left work at 6 + ε. At 7pm, I was already in bed to take a nap before diner… I woke up at midnight…too late to have dinner, I continued sleeping until 8.30 am. My roommates were already ready to play tennis! I preferred to stay home and write this (the French version). When they returned, Guilherme took me to buy a bike. I should go to the beach too, but I still didn’t have time to! Something important: I will play soccer tomorrow with my roommate’s friends/colleagues!!!
So far, it’s all right!
I’m just wondering…and worrying…when will I speak English??!! My two roommates and every people in the company are (or speak) French…

First day in LA

Thursday.
Upon waking up at 8.30 am ( Jet lag damages…), I called my boss who told me to join them in the morning…I can go to the company using Guilherme’s bike. I live a 5 to 10 minutes bike ride away from work. When I arrived at work, I found a very laid-back atmosphere! My boss is in his late 40’s, dressed in shorts, tattooed on his arms, legs; with yellow sunglasses like Obispo. Another boss walks without shoes in the (little!) building (situated 10 minutes riding from the beach!).
I was explained what Bossa Nova deals with, what I will work on. I asked some questions. I will be working from 8 am to 6 pm, with a little hour break at noon to eat. After eating a sandwich with my colleagues, I went to “Bank of America” to open a checking account.
I went back home and to the supermarket with Lauriane… with her Jeep! I also jogged with Guilherme to an electronics shop to buy an alarm clock , so that I’m not late to work! I went to bed at 9 pm.... yes, still jet lagged!

A 25 hours trip

My trip started at 7.45am on Wednesday, April 4th, when I took the train to Paris. It ended the same day around 11.00 am, when I first stepped in my new apartment. It took approximately 25 hours … Even though it was my first airplane trip (yes, it is possible!!), I was not even afraid like I thought I would be … On the plane to Chicago, an example of a pure American stereotype was sitting next to me! A little fat smiling woman who ate during all the trip: sodas, sweets, sandwiches, the diner served by the air-hotesses. A one week calories’ quantity swallowed in 8 hours! While eating, she read a “so interesting” study about…Britney Spears’ behaviour…!!! I didnot think that it was possible to waste time writing (and reading!) so many things about her. Once I arrived at the airport, I retrieved my luggage and waited for my boss who was supposed to pick me up……….
…..I waited….
…..waited………………………………………………….waited…….
and I called Lauriane (my French roommate) and Guilherme (my Brazilian roommate), who proposed to come to pick me up. My boss would tell me later it was a misunderstanding…
Arriving at my new home, I visited the apartment quickly: I have my own bathroom, a large wall cupboard, a soft feather bed, a thick carpet ground, an desk and the internet. Perfect! After some blablabla, I went to bed.
